The elusive Great Pumpkin didn’t put in an appearance after all, but kids who toured the annual Pumpkin Walk in Steilacoom were happy with the pumpkins that were there. Four pumpkin carvers were especially happy.
Winners of the 2009 Pumpkin Walk included: Scariest: Lacey Thomson; Most Creative: David Larson; Cutest: Olivia Coogan; and Funniest: Carolyn McFarland. Each winner received a Certificate of Appreciation, and a small cash prize.
About 35 pumpkins, carved by Pioneer Middle School Builders Club members, were on display at the festive walk, held Oct. 30 at the Nathaniel Orr Home property in Steilacoom. Charm Harris, Builders Club Advisor, coordinated the carving and delivery to the site.
“Eighty-three ballots were cast,” according to SHMA Education Committee Chairman Judy Hopkins.
After viewing the pumpkins, those who were brave enough to do so, visited the really gory Haunted House. Thanks to Andy Millard and his dedicated crew who created this scream-inducing site. Reports are that it was a “howling” success.
And most folks learned the reason for the wrecked car in the Orr Orchard!
