Thank you for your hard-working contributions to our very successful Make A Difference Day event at Sunnyside Beach Park this past Sunday, 25 Oct 09!!
We had a great turnout with a total of 32 participants who indeed made a difference. Steilacoom High School had an impressive showing, with 11 students from the Honor Society, and 3 more from SHS who used this as their community service project.
Our volunteers brought water, made hot water for warm drinks, set up canopies, had displays, brought refreshments, and worked incredibly hard and effectively.
Together we removed the tenacious blackberry vines and other weeds. We harvested native grasses from on site and took advantage of the timely gift from the Nisqually Delta–large clumps of grass that had broken off and sought refuge at Sunnyside Beach Park ! These grasses were replanted in locations designed to strengthen our beach from erosion. We also shored up some of the weaker areas along the beach with a few logs. There was wonderful teamwork everywhere, and the results are very noticeable.
The support from Rick Creger, Public Works, was as always outstanding. Thank you, Rick, for all of the tools and guidance!!
A sincere THANK YOU to our participants: James Watkins, Ashley Taylor, Ron and Jan Lucas, Sam Courts, Sean Hobbs, Stepanie Martin, Rikki Perez, Karim and Connie Aboubakr, Mike and Nancy Henderson, Mark and Chris Pires with Hannah and Emma, Ecaterina Bencheci, Kirsten Smock, Rebecca Hill, Kathryn Boelke, Obi Gibson, Heidi and Tristen Smith, Khaiel Natividad, Rachel Murphy, Roberta Black, Diane Franklin, Tony Forsyth, Haley Liu, Sammy Scott, Cindy Connally, and Jeff Bryan.
