Letter: Mary Moss endorsement

October 25, 2009 By Ben Sclair

On Nov 3rd, I recommend Lakewood voters elect Mary Moss to Position #1 on the Lakewood City Council.

Mary’s accomplishments include serving on the Boards of Directors of the Lakewood Playhouse, Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, Communities in Schools of Lakewood and the Clover Park Technical College Foundation. In addition, she has been involved in community activities associated with St. Clare Hospital, the City of Lakewood, United Way of Pierce County, the Air Force Association and the Salvation Army. Mary is past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Clover Park Technical College and is past Honorary Commander of the 446th Squadron at McChord Air Force Base. For her community efforts, Mary was recognized as a “Woman of Influence” by the Business Examiner newspaper in 2004.

Businesses and organizations which have endorsed Mary include the Pierce County Central Labor Council, Local 1488 Offices of the Fire Fighters Union, Tacoma-Pierce County Black Collectives, Tacoma-Pierce County Association of Realtors, Waste Connections, Signs by Tomorrow, Puget Sound Energy, Swarner Communications, Rick Stevens Geigo Insurance Agency, law firm of L&A Luce & Associates PS and the News Tribune.

This dedicated Lakewood citizen would bring to the City Council her 30 years of experience in banking and public relations in Lakewood and an educational background that includes bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Through her own educational accomplishments and community involvement, Mary has developed expertise in planning, budgeting and decision-making. I believe these skills will enable her to immediately work effectively with her fellow Council members, city staff and the Lakewood population-at-large.

I am impressed that Mary’s priorities include introducing a business incubator to assist local entrepreneurs and put people back to work, supporting efforts of the police and fire departments to keep our neighborhoods safe and continuing to advocate for programs that support early childhood development as well as higher education.

Please join me in voting for Mary Moss, an outstanding candidate who–as a member of the Lakewood City Council–would help the City of Lakewood continue to move forward in the days ahead.

Sincerely,

Paul Webb
Lakewood
