Martha O’Neil June 24, 1912-October 8, 2009 After 97 years of flowing with the seasons of the year, Martha O’Neil departed this life on the beautiful Fall day of October 8, 2009. She will be remembered as a strongly independent woman who was filled with optimism to the end. To her dying day Martha was sure she would win the Readers Digest Sweepstakes. She prided herself in being Eatonville’s oldest resident. She would not entertain the thought of not living out her days in the home in which she raised her three children, nurtured her eight grandchildren, her fourteen great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She found much joy in the special friendships established in Eatonville and in particular with her dear friend Kaye Dorn. All of us will treasure the happy times spent with Grandma in her kitchen, garden, and ceramic shop learning from her great artistic and domestic skills while being enchanted by tales of the pioneering days. Martha is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents Westley Scoggins and Susie Fiander Scoggins, and her siblings Myrtle Scoggins Forgey and Robert Scoggins. She is survived by her three children Peggy O’Neil Higgins (husband Robert), Larry O’Neil (wife Margie), and Don O’Neil (deceased wife Judy). Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Garden Chapel at the Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood 98496. The family is asking that memorial donations be made to the Eatonville Fire Department/EMS, PO Box 291, Eatonville, WA 98328. The family request no flowers. The O’Neil family would like to thank the Eatonville Fire Department/EMS, Kirk & Suzanne @Kirk’s Pharmacy in Eatonville for all they have done for Martha as well as Dr. Mark Craddock for all the special nurturing and care he has given to his oldest patient over the years.
