Swarner Communications announced today that the Northwest Airlifter, the only weekly newspaper solely serving the airmen and their families at McChord Air Force Base has switched print dates from Friday to Thursday, and will now, in addition to distribution on McChord, also include circulation in the greater South Puget Sound area.
The changes take place with the October 1st issue.
“These changes are part of McChord Air Force Base and Fort Lewis joining to become Joint Base Lewis-McChord,” said Ken Swarner, publisher. “For those who enjoy the Fort Lewis Ranger newspaper, the NW Airlifter will be similar in its style and design. The Airlifter will also now include the full edition of the Weekly Volcano inside its pages.”
Swarner Communications has published the NW Airlifter since 1980. Prior to this week, the Airlifter has been controlled editorially by the Air Force, and has been restricted to only on-base delivery. The new arrangement allows Swarner to distribute the Airlifter both on and off the base, as well as begin independent editorial coverage of McChord.
Tyler Hemstreet has been named editor-in-chief of the NW Airlifter.
