Lawrence Bateman, a member of Fort Steilacoom board and reenactor, will bring alive the history of the first Fort in Puget Sound. He will tell the stories of the soldiers, officers, and their families. Participants will learn about army life while touring the displays in the four historic officers quarters.
Meet Saturday September 26, 2009, in Quarters 2 from 10 a. m. to 2 p.m. at 9601 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood, Washington, on the grounds of Western State Hospital. Bring a sack lunch. Come all or part of the day. Call 253- 582-5838 for information.
Mr. Bateman, a member of the Fort board, the 4th U. S. Infantry, and the Civil War Association, is active in military reenactments, and research. He and board member, John McPherson have explored the sites of the 1855-1856 Indian War and participated in Civil War reenactment battles at Gettysburg. Bateman also sponsors Military model gaming of the Indian War and Civil War battles.
