Cyclocross race at Ft. Steilacoom

September 17, 2009 By Ben Sclair

The Rad Racing Grand Prix of Cyclocross, will be held at Ft. Steilacoom Park on Sunday, September 20 from 9am-5pm (Elite Women at 3pm and Elite Men at 4pm). The event will feature 400 of the top competitors including:

  • U.S. National Champion Ryan Trebon, originally from Steilacoom, who will be returning to his home turf;
  • Three-time U.S. National Champion and 2007 World Championship Silver Medalist Jonathon Page, who will be making his first appearance at the Rad Racing Grand Prix; and
  • Alison Dunlap (Luna), a former world champion and Olympic team member on the mountain bike, and a five-time national champion in Cyclocross and winner of the Rad Racing event in 2002.

Cyclocross, described by enthusiasts as “the toughest hour in cycling,” is an on-road and off-road cycling discipline held on a one- to two-mile looped circuit. Cyclocross racers navigate mud, sand, pavement, grass, gravel, pasture and mulch. When the terrain is too steep to ride, riders dismount, shoulder their bikes and run.
