FORT LEWIS, Wash. – Family, friends, Soldiers and the Fort Lewis community will remember Spc. Jonathan D. Welch, Pfc. Jordan M. Brochu, and Spc. Tyler R. Walshe, during a memorial ceremony to be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 1:30 p.m. at North Fort Chapel.
Spc. Jonathan D. Welch, 19, of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Pfc. Jordan M. Brochu, 20, of Cumberland, Maine, died Aug. 31 in Shuyene Sufia, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. Spc. Tyler R. Walshe, 21, of Shasta, Calif., also died Aug. 31 in southern Afghanistan, of wounds suffered in a separate incident, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Wash. The unit deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in July, 2009.
