Lakewood, WA: Two (2) nominations have been received for positions on the Board of Directors of Educating Our Youth (the not for profit sponsor of the Funding College Project) hosted by St Joseph – St John Episcopal Church. Ms. Kayleen Zimmerman is a graduate of Stadium High School, Tacoma, WA and Ms. Tatianna Bryant is a Sophomore at Lakes High School, Lakewood, WA. They have been instrumental in the early development of the project and continue to be leading forces who will make it the kind of hands on activity needed in today’s society. Individual can submit their nomination directly or they may be placed into nominated by someone else, the nomination and application period will close November 1, 2009.
The Funding College Project was conceived to offer additional resources to students and families in the Southwest sector of Pierce County to include: DuPont, Tillicum, Lakewood, Steilacoom and other areas where surveys indicate lower levels of post secondary edu ctional success and higher levels of poverty as measured by federal guidelines.
The project founders believes: Obtaining a college degree represents an important piece of the American dream. However, rising costs are making this an almost impossible dream without an equivalent rise in better financing options.
