Letter: Perhaps the bill isn’t ‘well thought out enough’

August 27, 2009 By Ben Sclair

Perhaps Rep. Smith would vote no because the plan is not yet well thought out enough to know what he would be endorsing. Read your American History book to find out what kinds of things pulled the US out of the Great Depression — besides WW-II — and created some of the social safeguards we have in place right now. Or would you rather go back to selling apples on the street, dying for lack of medical care, and inability to keep your children in high school, let alone college? The Supreme Court has been a faithful watchdog of constitutionality; perhaps we should all re-read the Constitution, and recognize that had it not been for a few “loud mouths” we never would have had the Bill of Rights.
