Wave of Destruction take on the Rat City Rollergirls at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom on Saturday

August 20, 2009 By Ben Sclair

LAKEWOOD — The Dockyard Derby Dames, Tacoma’s competitive roller derby league, will match their all-star team, the Wave of Destruction, against Seattle’s Rat City Rollergirls B-team at 6 p.m. Saturday at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom’s Health Education Center, 9401 Farwest Drive SW.

Advance tickets are available for $10 at www.brownpapertickets.com or at the Pierce College Athletic Department office. Tickets will be available at the door for $12. It’s also Military Appreciation Night and military personnel with valid ID will receive $5 admission. Children ages 5 and younger are free.

The Dockyard Derby Dames is donating 10 percent of bout proceeds to Pierce College athletic scholarships.

The Wave of Destruction is comprised of the best players in the Dockyard Derby Dames’ four-team league. The team competes nationally.

“This event really showcases roller derby as it’s meant to be seen,” said skater Jennifer Fetters. “The fast-paced action, hard hits, and athleticism of the sport will make a lasting impression on anyone who has not seen modern roller derby in person.”
