Julie Kerrigan, Volunteer Coordinator for the UP Volunteer Center, (253) 223-0039 sent us a note to tell us about two volunteer opportunities (Pups in the Park and the Curran Apple Orchard Cider Squeeze). Pups in the Park is a festival for dogs and their owners. There will be vendors, contests a parade and more. This event is happening at Cirque Park Saturday August 29th 10 am-2 pm.
The Curran Apple Orchard Cider Squeeze is an annual event where people can come pick apples and press them into cider. This event is happening at the Curran Apple Orchard on Sunday September 13th 1-4 pm. These are great opportunities to get involved and have fun while doing it. See details below. SUNDOGS Pups in the Park Volunteers 2009
Set-up: Assist vendors with booth set-up.
8:00 – 10:00 AM (3 volunteers needed)
Registration: Assist lead volunteer with participant registration.
9:30 – 11:30 AM (2 adult volunteers needed)
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM (1 adult volunteer needed)
Canine Good Citizen Testing: Assist certified dog trainer during administration of Canine Good Citizen Tests.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (3 Adult volunteers needed)
12:00 – 2:00 PM (3 Adult volunteers needed)
Contests: Assist lead volunteer with dog contests.
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (2 volunteers needed)
12:00 – 2:00 PM (2 volunteers needed)
McGruff: Dress up as McGruff the crime dog to lead the parade and promote the event. Adult volunteers are needed to chaperone McGruff.
30 minute shifts available throughout the event.
Take-down: All volunteers who work afternoon shifts are asked to help with booth take-down from 2:00-3:00 PM.

Curran Apple Orchard Cider Squeeze 2009
Apple Tree Monitoring: help protect taped trees from being picked on the day of the squeeze.
Set up crew: Help to set up tents, washing stations and hay bales. Requires physical ability.
Time 9:30am to 12:00pm.
Help during the event: Act as greeters, direct people to apple trees where they can pick, organize lines for the cider pressers. Help return apple crates to washing stations, and haul wheelbarrows of apple pressings. Time 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
Take down crew: Help take down tents, washing stations and return equipment and supplies to barn. Time 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
