The long-vacant Bair Drug and Hardware Store in downtown Steilacoom will be back in operation as a restaurant in September, according to word from the Steilacoom Historical Museum Association (SHMA) newsletter.
Sarah Cannon has signed an agreement with SHMA to operate a bistro and coffeehouse restaurant in the Bair. According to the newsletter, Cannon initially will focus on breakfast and lunch menus for eat-in dining and also provide sandwiches and other take-out items for those “on-the-go.” A dinner menu will be added in the future. A planned major part of the operation will include the soda fountain that has long been a fixture at the front of the store.
Cannon is the granddaughter of Steilacoom resident Sandra Grondahl and has family ties to the community extending back five generations. Although a current resident of Fircrest, she and her husband Maxwell are active members in Steilacoom’s Oberlin Congregational Church.
