Ahoy, mateys! Want to go sailin’ without leaving the dock?
Then sign up now for the 2009 Town-wide Garage Sale, set for Saturday, Aug. 15.
The annual community/Chamber of Commerce mega-garage sale has been a town tradition for almost two decades now, according to Patti Young, Steilacoom Chamber of Commerce Member.
The event provides a dual benefit: salers recycle no-longer-wanted items, and proceeds from Saturday activity support Chamber scholarships for Steilacoom High School graduates.
The sale takes place between 9-4 p.m. that day. Begin at the Tennis Court on Lafayette Street. That’s where treasure hunters can pick up maps directing them to sale locations scheduled for that day. Cost for booth space at the Tennis Court is only $10. It costs the same to be listed on the map, Young says.
Interested Garage Salers should pick up an application form at Key Bank, Steilacoom Marine & Spirits, or from Pat’s Barbershop as soon as possible. Forms also can be printed from the Chamber’s website at www.steilacoom.com, she adds.
Goodwill Industries of Tacoma will park a collection truck at the Community Center later that afternoon for leftover treasures that bargain hunters overlook, according to Young.
