Sen. Mike Carrell, R-Lakewood, achieved a perfect score in the 2009 Washington Retail Association (WRA) Voting Record.
The WRA Voting Record is useful in gauging how much a legislator supports issues important to the retail industry. WRA awarded points based on a series of nine priority issues, with 24 points being the highest possible score. Points were awarded for voting in favor of bills WRA supported or lost through sponsorship of bills WRA opposed in the 2009 Legislative session.
A perfect score means a legislator supported retail interests ranging from unemployment insurance reform to protecting retrospective rating programs and eliminating undue regulation and financial penalties for small businesses.
“I see the businesses in my district and I know that many of them are suffering due to government over-regulation and an oppressive tax structure,” Carrell said. “These businesses put people to work, creating jobs and driving the economy forward. I’m happy to support the efforts of the WRA and proud to have received a perfect score, and I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of job providers in our state.”
The WRA wishes to honor those legislators who most strongly supported retailers whose tax revenues and employment opportunities are crucial to the economic health of state government and households across Washington. WRA membership ranges from national companies to smaller retailers throughout Washington State.
