Fort Lewis, Wash. – 4th Stryker Brigade and the City of Lakewood are hosting a social where Col. John Norris, the Brigade commander and Lakewood Mayor Doug Richardson, will launch a new Community Connection program called Adopt-A-Company in advance of the unit’s upcoming deployment to Iraq. The social will be Tuesday July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lakewood City Hall Council Chambers.
The Adopt-A-Company program is a volunteer-based program that connects Lakewood businesses and organizations with 4th Stryker Brigade Soldiers and offers a channel by which to strengthen relationships, and improve community relations.
Fort Lewis’ 4th Stryker Brigade is partnered with the City of Lakewood as part of the posts’ Community Connections program in which 15 major Fort Lewis units are partnered with local municipalities throughout the area. The program began in 2000.
For the Adopt-A-Company program, local organizations and businesses will team up with one of 30 companies in the brigade and support the company while it is deployed. Suggestions for support would be, but are not limited to, writing letters and exchanging photos. The Lakewood organizations can coordinate with their respective company to support community improvement projects and other events. Army units will return letters, exchange photos and keep organizations informed about the units deployment. The business or organization will also receive the Desert Raider Newsletter. The Adopt a Company partnership may include invitations to special events held by the companies, battalions, and the 4th Stryker Brigade.Print This Post
