The Fort Lewis 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team has developed a Community Connections program with the City of Lakewood and to date, there have been many activities where they have supported each other.
Col. Norris, Commander of the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, is hoping to build this relationship with the local business community as their unit gets ready to deploy to Iraq this fall. To do this, he would like to decentralize the Community Connector program by establishing the Adopt-A-Company Program. This can easily be done because your organization would only be in contact with companies that have as little as 50 — or up to 200 men/women instead of the entire 4,000 troops.
It is our hope that local business takes an active role in supporting them as well. Not lip service. Not putting a sign up at your entrance proclaiming “We support our troops.” We’re talking about something meaningful.
Suggests for support would be:
- Writing Letters
- Exchanging of photos
Army units will
- Return letters
- Exchange photos
- Keep organizations informed about the units deployment
The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce has agreed to spearhead this project. There are 30 units that are in the Brigade – and we are seeking an additional seven businesses to ensure that each company has a civilian team. This is a low-cost show of support for the men and women who protect us every day. I hope you agree that it’s not too much to ask of yourself and your organization to Adopt-A-Company.
There is an upcoming meeting next Tuesday evening for businesses to meet their military points of contact in an informal setting. If your business is interested in supporting our troops, please contact Linda Smith, Lakewood Chamber of Commerce at 253-582-9400 no later than Friday, July 17.
