July 14, 2009 By Ben Sclair

bennett-richardRichard Neal Bennett If love could have kept you alive, you would have lived forever … In memory of Richard Neal Bennett , born in Kent, Washington on June 20, 1926… passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 11, 2009. Preceded in death by his brothers Gene, Melvin and Burt. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia, his sons Kent & wife Diana and Larry & wife Rosalie, daughter Linda & husband Richard, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Richard grew up in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. The family moved to Tacoma in 1943 when he was 17 where he took a job at the Tacoma Rubber Stamp Company. In 1944, at age 18, he joined the Navy and was stationed on the USS Markab, a destroyer tender serving the South Pacific during WWII. There he saw action during the Phillippine campaign. After returning from the war, Richard worked tirelessly for 44 more years at Tacoma Rubber Stamp, never missing a day from sickness to support his family. Richard (Dad) could fix anything. He built by hand the house he raised his family in. He was completely unselfish and always had a smile on his face. Family was everything to him.. his love of family, the outdoors and his spontaneous drives in the car are being passed on by his children and grandchildren to their own. His love of nature was exemplified in his beautiful dahlia garden which he shared with everyone and will be a lasting tribute to the beauty of his spirit. A private extended family memorial is planned at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, July 18th at 1:30pm, followed at 3:30pm by a BBQ in his honor at the family home for family, friends and neighbors. We love you so very, very much Dad Please sign online guestbook at www.mountainviewtacoma.com
