Eleven Lakes High School students took part in the school’s first Lancer Reading Challenge, where they read at least 7,000 pages during the school year. Lakes sophomore Destiny Post took top-spot in the challenge reading a whopping 28,061 pages.

Karen Knudson, Lakes’ librarian, organized the challenge based on a similar program at Lochburn Middle School. Knudson also tackled and completed the challenge.

“The students really embraced this activity, which makes me so delighted,” said Knudson. “Reading widely and avidly helps create the patterns of thought needed for life-long learning.”

The students who met the challenge of 7,000 pages received $20 Barnes & Noble gift cards, a bookmark and a certificate. The gift cards were purchased by Lakes’ PTSA through grants from the Clover Park Kiwanis Club and the Lakewood Rotary.
