lindbergh-gladysGLADYS LINDBERGH 1924 ~ 2009 Gladys Jane Thomas was born July 2, 1924 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on June 12, 2009 in Tacoma, Washington. One of five children of John and Ruth Thomas, she was raised in several cities in Wyoming and Montana as the family published community newspapers. She graduated from Glasgow, Montana High School before moving to Renton, Washington and worked at the Renton newspaper. She met Avard Lindbergh in the Puget Sound area and they were married in October, 1950. They had three children – twins Jay and Erick in 1951 and Brad in 1960. The family settled in Lakewood in 1954 and our mother concentrated on raising her family and was a charter member of the United Methodist Church in Lakewood. She continued her journalism interests by authoring a column “Northwest Legacy” that ran in weekly newspapers and as a member of the Puget Sound branch of the American Pen Women. She also owned Thermograhed Printing, selling business cards and office forms to Pierce County businesses. She enjoyed walking with the Lakewood Mall walkers and traveling to Pacific Northwest historical locations. She was preceded in death by her spouse, brother Charles Thomas and sisters Dee Scheyer and Margaret Parker. She is survived by sister Mary McClellan, Rockford, Illinois; sons Charles Jay, Lakewood, Erick (spouse Sally), Tacoma and Bradley (spouse Joni), Margate, Florida; grandchildren Kyle, Kent and Julia Lindbergh, Florida, Sarah Lowen (spouse Steve), Tacoma, and Marvin Hogan (spouse Lisa), Kent; great-grandchildren Stephen, Jennifer, David and Tiffany Lowen, Tacoma, Mariah and Kennedy Hogan, Kent; and great-great-grandson Jesse Webb, Tacoma, plus many nephews and nieces. The Lindbergh family thanks the wonderful staff at Tacoma’s Regency Care Center for Gladys’ care over the last three years, especially Jamie, Carol, Tyra, Debbie, Michelle, Phyllis, Stacy, Amy, Skeet and Nancy. Mom appreciated the efforts of sister Mary and nieces Donna and Aprille traveling from out of state to visit her during her stay at Regency. Memorial service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 7 p.m. Her remains will be spread at Mt. Wow near Ashford on Friday, August 7 to be co-mingled with her spouse’s and mother’s remains. They will be re-united to begin their eternal life together overlooking Mt. Rainier.
