The 5th grade classes at Southgate elementary were treated to a special day of Outdoor Education funded by Clover Park Rotary this week. The classes spent the entire day at Camp Thunderbird located on the Olympic peninsula working in small groups performing science experiments and discovering the great outdoors.
Activities included hiking and indigenous plant identification, animal and habitat studies, water and soil conservation and outdoor safety.
The students had an opportunity to cook their own lunches over an open fire and experience a learning environment that was outside the classroom. For many it was the first time to experience the tremendous wonder that is the great outdoors here in the Pacific Northwest.
Thank you Rotary for making this special day a reality for these 5th graders.
