It would be great if you would mention the Annual Basketball game of the Lakewood Police Department and the Lakewood Fire Department which occurred on Saturday eve at the Clover Park High School. (Helmets vs. Shields 5th Annual Charity Basketball Game).
It was a fight to the finish and went into overtime with a score of 57 Fire Dept vs. 56 Police Dept. This was well played game with enough action to keep everyone on the edge of their seats. The money earned from this game goes into community assistance, immediate assistance for basic human needs and for child victims etc.
It would be great if you could give them some publicity and kudos for a job well done.
Perhaps this would help fill up all the seats in the gym their next game. I took my two grandsons and both enjoyed seeing the game. They both said they would like to attend the next game. I think children need to be aware that police and firefighters are great people, who put their lives on the line and should be respected for their dedication to service and their ability to dribble and shoot baskets as well.
I believe that Sgt Unfred was in charge of setting this up, however, I am sure that he worked with several from both services.
Please consider a story covering this event which raised money for the people in need in Lakewood.
Thanks,
Carol Hudgins, Coordinator,
Lakewood Observation Patrol
Editor’s Note: Carol, it’s not physically possible for us to cover everything that happens in our community. Much as we’d like to. It is letters like this that we’ll happily pass along. Keep them coming.
