On April 28, you expressed your support of Steilacoom’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by voting on the continuation of the 6-year EMS program. Your 64% “Yes” vote showed your confidence in the program as it has existed. This additional $.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation targeted to EMS services has been approved for years by Steilacoom residents. Your “Yes” vote is not an increase or new tax. The Council will establish the exact 2010 EMS collection amount in the Fall. Be assured that my recommendation to the Council will request only that part of the $.50 cents which is needed for EMS operations. On behalf of the Council and myself…Thank You!
The Town has continued its coordination for a “Farmers’ Market” on the nine dates (June-August) of the Summer Concert series which are held at the bandstand on each Wednesday at 6:30 PM. The Farmers’ Market location will be at Lafayette and Wilkes St. on the multipurpose court across from the Bair Drug Store and along Wilkes Street. Our hope is that this new project will be successful and worthwhile to you and will add to the many opportunities for local participation here in Steilacoom. The Market will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM from June 24 through August 19th. Interested vendors should contact Voraya at 581-1630 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Other inquiries should be directed to Kelly at 229-5175 or email@example.com.
The Steilacoom School Board has selected Dr. Catherine Davidson, from a group of distinguished educators, as the interim superintendent of the Steilacoom Historical School District #1 (SHSD). Dr. Davidson will assume her duties on 1 July, 2009. I attended the selection process and believe our community will be very well served with Dr. Davidson’s experience and skills.
I again wish the very best to Dr. Art Himmler and his family as they depart to Omak, WA after 15 years of leadership and academic progress with our children. I have sent a clear, early warning to the Omak area fish, moose, and elk that Dr. Himmler is inbound!! I assure you our community is better for his long tenure of stewardship. Travel safely!
Last month I introduced that the volunteer led Steilacoom Fireworks Committee will be active this month promoting the Steilacoom 4th of July activities and gathering funds for the excellent fireworks show. Please welcome them as they complete their work.
School is almost out….please drive safely during the summer.
