Three members of the Lakewood Community Foundation surprised an Emergency Food Network (EFN) staff and committee meeting Wednesday by presenting a check for $3000. The distribution was one of several made to community agencies serving needy families in Lakewood. Helen McGovern, recently named CEO of EFN, appeared elated and said: “These funds will help tremendously in our effort to feed the ever-growing number of Lakewood residents who rely on area food banks.”
Bill Harrison, David Boyd and Andie Gernon represented the Lakewood Community Foundation. Gina Breukelman, Lauren Dammier, Elisabeth Pynn Himmelman, Walt Waisath and Helen McGovern were the happy recipients.
The Lakewood Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization formed through the efforts of Lakewood and Clover Park Rotarians in the early 1990s. Its mission is to build a permanent endowment to provide funding to serve the Lakewood community, connecting donors with causes that make Lakewood a desirable community in which to live, work and play.
Other 2009 grant recipients to date include Caring for Kids, Communities in Schools of Lakewood, and the Lakewood Early Learning Initiative. For information on how you can support the work of the foundation, please contact President Dave Betz at 253-588-2132Print This Post
