Lakewood, WA., Lakewood Playhouse continues its 70th anniversary season with another gala “golden age of radio” event of two radio plays adapted from the movies, “The Maltese Falcon,” and “Casablanca.”
A talented cast of regional actors, directed by Lakewood Playhouse Production Manager James Venturini, bring these famous stories to life on Lakewood Playhouse’s intimate stage. This is a one time event in continuation of celebrating Lakewood Playhouse’s 70th Anniversary. As with Lakewood Playhouse’s previous radio play events, the programs are presented as if the audience is watching radio actors, directors and sound effects personnel broadcasting the shows from inside a radio studio.
“The Maltese Falcon” is based on Dashiell Hammett’s famous novel about the pursuit of a legendary gold and jewel encrusted statue; “Casablanca” is adapted from the famous WWII film about a man and woman torn between love and virtue. Both films were adapted for radio and presented on the air in the 1940s; the Lakewood Playhouse productions will use the original radio scripts.
A RADIO GALA: THE MALTESE FALCON AND CASABLANCA is presented for one night only on June 11, 2009. Ticket prices are $30 for single tickets and $50 for couples. Each patron receives complementary hors d’oeuvres at this gala event, and wine will be for sale by the glass or bottle. The preshow reception begins at 7 pm and the show begins at 8 pm.
Lakewood Playhouse is located at 5729 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd, next to the Pierce Transit Center in the heart of the Lakewood Towne Center. For more information call the Lakewood Playhouse Box Office at 253-588-0042 or visit www.lakewoodplayhouse.org.
