President John Walstrum and his wife tour the Hayes Child Development Center during the open house.

About 100 people filled the Hayes Child Development Center at the Clover Park Technical College Campus Thursday afternoon for an open house and tour of the facilities.

The center currently has 87 youngsters enrolled and they are overseen by a staff of about 30 trained professionals under the leadership of Manager Angela Johnson.

The center was opened in February 2005 and has become an accredited facility. It is licensed for 109 children from infants through toddlers to school age kids. Fees for the children attending are subsidized by the DSHS Work Force program. Many of the parents are attending CPTC in training programs and without the DSHS subsidy would not be able to have proper care for their youngsters.

The center was named for Sally and Phil Hayes. As a member of the CPTC Foundation and a former member of the CPTC board, Hayes recognized the need for a child development center and with his wife made a major contribution to get the project off the ground. The college board subsequently decided to name the center in their honor.
