This month attend one of 16 public meetings in Pierce County and hear proposed improvements and give comments on recommendations for how Pierce County Library System can best meet future community needs.
For the past several months, the Library has been gathering ideas and opinions from thousands of people about community needs in the next 20 plus years, and how the Library can plan for and deliver quality services in contemporary, convenient locations to help meet those needs. This community input has been combined with an assessment of current library services and buildings, information about future growth trends, and best practices from successful libraries to complete the study of future needs and form draft recommendations to help meet those needs. The Library wants the public to comment on the resulting draft recommendations for how it can best meet future community needs.
The meetings will run from 6:30-8 p.m. at the following locations:
- DuPont Pierce County Library, 1540 Wilmington Drive, Wednesday, May 27
- Lakewood Pierce County Library, 6300 Wildaire Road S.W., Monday, May 18
- Steilacoom Pierce County Library, 2950 Steilacoom Blvd., Wednesday, May 20
- Tillicum Community Center, 14916 Washington Ave. S.W., Tuesday, May 19
The ideas from the meetings and other public involvement activities will become part of a facilities master plan: Pierce County Library 2030, which is expected to be in final form in fall 2009.
The goals of the plan are to meet the needs of growing and changing communities by delivering contemporary services and providing library buildings and alternative ways to get service.
