Norma Lillian Svoboda Norma Lillian Svoboda April 25, 1920 B April 24, 2009. Norma passed just one day before her 89th birthday. She was the first of two children born to Henry and Hilda Carlson. Born in Portland, Oregon, she spent the years prior to her marriage living there with her parents and brother, Kenneth. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1938. Norma and Milton Svoboda were wed in 1943 following his service in World War II as a B-17 Navigator/Bombardier. After the war, they moved to one of her favorite places, Bend, Oregon. Milt later rejoined the Army Air Corps and served until his retirement in 1968. Norma thoroughly enjoyed all the travel afforded by her husband’s military career and she made many life long friends in the process. The highlight of her travels was an assignment to London, England during the late 1950s. She and her friends spent many fun filled days driving around London and the English countryside in her Morris Minor searching for antiques. Her past forty two years were spent in the Lakewood area, most of this time at her home in Oakbrook. Norma took up golf with a few of her friends and spent many memorable days riding the ferry to Anderson Island and golfing on wonderful sunny days. She brought much joy to everyone in her family and always had a good word and a smile for everyone. Her home cooked meals were unbelievable. Norma is survived by sons Joe, Ken and Paul; daughters-in-law Debbie and Janet; grandchildren Scott, Bret and Stephanie; and great granddaughter Ahlanna. Many thanks to the kind staff at Bridgeport Place. There will be a private burial service on May 2 at Mountain View Memorial Park.
