“Be our guest, be our guest…”
“Be our guest,” invite members of the dining room chorus that’s busily rehearsing for the upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast at Steilacoom High School, just six days away.
Dancing plates, goblets, spoons, cups, salt and pepper shakers, Mrs. Potts and Chip, have been twirling around the stage, preparing for the Friday, May 7 opening of the school’s eagerly anticipated music production.
Beth Meberg, Class of 2007, is choreographer for the show. Meberg, who played Sgt. Sarah Brown in the 2006 production of “Guys and Dolls,” pauses between scenes to say, “it’s fun and nice to hang out with the kids who’re enjoying what they’re doing.”
This is the second year for the SHS grad to assist with the school’s musical. Beth, who’s majoring in Scandinavian Studies at the UW, choreographed half a dozen dances in last year’s musical, “How to Succeed in Business.”
A that time, she casually mentioned that she’d be glad to help again. Musical director, Tina Hayden, took her up on that offer. Beth began helping during spring break and now drives from Seattle three times a week to rehearse the cast. Beth estimates that she has either directed, acted in, or choreographed 5-6 plays since graduating. She’s also considering majoring in Drama, she adds.
Showtimes for this entertaining spring event are at 6:30 p.m on May 7, May 8, May 9 and May 11. There’s also a 1 p.m. matinee on May 9.
Tickets are $8 (with an ASB card) and $10, without. If you saved the program from the recent Mr. SHS program, be sure to tear out and use the “$1 off” coupon. For more information contact 983-2300.
