A Steilacoom Farmer’s Market is in the works with the first event slated for Wednesday, June 24, coinciding with the Town’s outdoor concert series. Additional markets will take place on succeeding Wednesdays through August 19.
The market will open each Wednesday at 3 pm and continue through 7 pm on the multi-purpose court in downtown Steilacoom.
Plans are to have at least half the vendors offering Washington State farm products. It is anticipated that other vendors will offer crafts and processed goods. In addition, Steilacoom-based community groups are expected to take part, although the main focus will remain on farm products.
The all-volunteer committee is seeking additional assistance for the following committees: Vendor selection, marketing and on-site market operations. Anyone interested should contact Kelly Barkhurst: 253-229-5175 or kellybarkhurst@yahoo.com. It would be helpful to outline the area of interest or experience you have.
Interested vendors are invited to contact the committee immediately: 253-581-1630 or vorayas@msn.com. The market guidelines and an application can be accessed on the Town’s website: http://www.townofsteilacoom.com/activities/events.htm. In order to comply with Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department rules, the market must submit a list of those selling meat, seafood, poultry, eggs and pre-packaged ready-to-eat food (such as honey, jam, preserves, sauces, snacks, popcorn, candy, etc.) by May 6 so time is of the essence.
