The city of Lakewood’s eighth annual Parks Appreciation Day was another huge success. Over 250 volunteers came out to celebrate earth day, Arbor Day and spring time in Lakewood. Planting, painting and beautification was done at Fort Steilacoom Park, American Lake Park, Harry Todd Park and the blueberry farm. Over 870 plants were planted at local parks, more than 60 yards of mulch was spread in landscaped beds and at the blueberry farm, 30 markers were replaced at the cemetery (including one for a civil war veteran), and hundreds of invasive plants were removed. Shelters were painted, flower beds were weeded and tons of material was taken away and recycled from an old barn. We really appreciate the support of the Park and Recreation Advisory Board as well as our service clubs, churches, volunteer groups, local businesses, scout groups, and all who volunteered to make Lakewood parks healthy spaces for our community.
