April 23, 2009 By Ben Sclair

Javier Figueroa, a community leader and real estate development consultant, has announced his candidacy for University Place City Council. Figueroa is seeking election to position #1, currently held by Councilmember Linda Bird.

Figueroa’s diverse background and 25 years of experience in forensic real estate contract and project management will bring a fresh attitude and understanding to resolving the development and financial issues the City of University Place is currently facing. He is committed to making sure city government is transparent and accountable to the citizens of University Place.

Figueroa’s experience in the real estate field encompasses the specialized fields of contract management, sales, development, appraising, project management, environmental issues, and property rights. He is nationally & internationally recognized for his expertise in real estate negotiations, public right-of-ways, and financing of energy efficiency.

Deeply committed to the community, Figueroa volunteers in a variety of community programs, from being a University Place Parks Commissioner to a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for the Pierce County Juvenile Court System, and from being a board member for The Grand Cinema to serving 15 years as a certified arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau of Washington.

Figueroa and his wife, Mary Kay moved to University Place in 1991 and have two children, ages 22 and 19. Figueroa has lived in Pierce County for 32 years.

The kick-off event for the Campaign to Elect Javier will be Thursday, June 4th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Captain Nemo’s Restaurant located on 4020 Bridgeport Way W, University Place, WA.

  1. UP Citizen says

    April 23, 2009 at 10:41 pm

I’m happy to find that Javier is running again for UP City Council. He will bring the ideas and common sense that this council needs right now. I have been a citizen of UP for nineteen years, and this city is special to me. I would like to see it grow in a positive manner, and I believe he will be one of the keys for optimistic growth in UP.
