The Suburban Times welcomes garden communicator Peter Punzi to the team. Punzi’s addition provides a Home & Garden section to the online newspaper. Punzi (also known as the “Horticulture Guy”) wrote a widely popular garden column for The Tacoma News Tribune from 2001 through 2005. He is also known for his garden segments for Comcast that aired on the “Around Here” show as well as in the On Demand content area.
Gardening for over 30 years, Punzi has spent the last 12 years in Lakewood. “Gardening in the Puget Sound has been such a great experience but it is very different then gardening in my home of New Jersey,” Peter confesses. “It was like being a beginning gardener once again. This helped me to teach new gardeners how to relate to the benefits and challenges of gardening in the Puget Sound region.”
Commenting on adding Punzi’s column to The Suburban Times Publisher Ben Sclair said he was excited to be able to once broaden the editorial scope of the newspaper. “We’ve provided news of the city governments, school boards, service clubs and now Punzi’s gardening column adds an entirely new dimension to the only newspaper that concentrates solely on the communities of DuPont, Steilacoom, Lakewood, University Place and Fircrest.”
Punzi has had the privilege of teaching both at the college and secondary school level. He also lectures at garden shows and garden clubs. His work with local gardeners as a garden coach has helped them start their own vegetable gardens, identify plants in their yard and learn how to maintain them for sustainability.
Be sure to subscribe to the The Suburban Times so you don’t miss Peter Punzi’s new online interactive column which will start tomorrow. Enjoy.

I’m excited! I used to garden a lot in Texas, but here in Lakewood I have a yard full of shade. I have a little corner with sunshine, but a herd of moles have torn up my yard. What is a good fruit tree to grow if you have just a little space (and what about those raccoons)? Welcome aboard.
