The contract to upgrade some seven miles of track between Tacoma and Lakewood is set for a Sound Transit vote, marking one of the last milestones for the rail to pass before the trains start running. The vote is set for today.
Railworks Track Systems is set to win a $37 million contract to do the work that would include improvements at 13 street-level spots where cars cross the tracks.
The Lakewood station is already open, with its 600 stall parking structure being used by car poolers and bus riders. Train service will come in 2011 and allow passengers to travel to cities around Pierce County and onto Seattle.
