Steilacoom High School hosted its first “Mr. SHS” contest on April 1. The highly entertaining show played to a packed house that evening.

And the winner is—no April Fool—Josh Palmer!

Palmer was one of a dozen contestants struttin’ his stuff on stage in the 2009 FCCLA-sponsored event. Runners-up in the SRO competition, held in the SHS auditorium, included Damon Rudisill and Jordan Flynn.

Contestants also included Casey Woodruff, Daniel Schultz, Elisaia Tuilagi, Brad Lasham, Ryan Zboralski, Bradley Mitcham, Thomas Fraser and Edwin Milanio and their charming lady escorts.

Mark Reuter’s grinning green ninja turtle-decorated cake earned the judges top award in the cake decorating competition. Reuter also was honored as having the “Best Legs”.

From the opening chorus line number to the finale: a series of challenging questions—the audience whooped and hollered in appreciation for this fast-moving spectacle that showcased numerous talents: music, formal wear competition, hair-do styling (on the female escorts), videos, and non-stop humor.

The 2009 Mr. SHS answered “world peace” when asked to name the most important thing in the 21st century.

“I can’t believe it!” he enthused as he was crowned, draped with a red sash and presented with a lavish floral bouquet. The audience roared its approval at his coronation.

The two-hour program also featured a “snippet” from the upcoming SHS Musical “Beauty and the Beast” showcasing “Gaston and Belle”.

Showtime for the four-night run of the popular Disney Musical is 6:30 p.m. on May 7-9 and 11. Don’t miss it. Phone 983-2300 for more information.
