What do you get when you add one Boy Scout troop and one food bank? A few less hungry neighbors! This year the theme for Scouting 4 Food, the annual food drive the Boy Scouts of America sponsors was “Bailing Out the Food Banks”.
Eleven boys and several adults from Lakewood Troop 51 spent one Saturday dropping off flyers to local homes and returned the next Saturday to pick up the food. The food was then delivered to the Bread of Life Food Bank, located at Lake City Community Church. Three full grocery carts worth of food was donated and this is especially appreciated in these difficult times!
Thanks so much to everyone in the areas surrounding St. Mary’s Episcopal church who donated food. Thanks for caring about your neighbors!
Local low-income families should inquire if they are eligible. Distribution is on Thursday afternoons and volunteers are always welcome to help. Contact Wanda Hayes-Director for more information.
Look for Boy Scouts from Troop 51 or other Pacific Harbors Council troops to be collecting food again in our area next March!
