FORT LEWIS, WA — Family, friends, Soldiers and the Fort Lewis community will remember Staff Sgt. Sean D. Diamond, in a memorial ceremony to be held Wednesday, February 25 at 10 a.m. in the North Fort Chapel.
According to the Department of Defense, Diamond, 41, died Feb. 15 in As Salam, Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
He was assigned to the 610th Engineer Support Company, 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade.
According to unit records, Diamond initially entered military service on Sep. 2, 1987. After a short break in service he rejoined the Army May 24, 2000. Upon completing advanced individual training in his military occupational specialty of 21E: Heavy Construction Equipment Operator at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., he was stationed in Germany. He arrived at Fort Lewis, August 2006. Diamond was assigned to the 610th Engineer Support Co., and deployed with the unit to Iraq in March, 2008
