Lakewood, WA — At 7:26 a.m. (February 18) the Lakewood Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 10211 47th Ave SW. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from a second story corner unit. Firefighters from Engine 21 first attacked the fire from the exterior using water from the tank on the fire engine. Engine 20 then hooked up to the fire hydrant and entered the structure to extinguish the fire. The fire was quickly knocked down and was declared under control at 7:43 a.m.
A mother and child were home at the time of the fire. The sound of the smoke alarm alerted them and they were able to safely evacuate the apartment. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damages are estimated at $150,000 to the structure and $40,000 to the contents.
