We, as a nation and world, are becoming more and more aware of the importance of eating food grown locally and organically. What are our options here in Lakewood and University Place? In the summer there are the TACOMA farmers markets (3 of them) and Olympia’s farmer market, or driving to Puyallup for their Saturday market, but nothing in Lakewood or University Place. The organic produce available in the large grocery stores could be from as far away as 6,000 miles! If it’s in plastic you know it isn’t local. One egg company is local and now free range and organic and in some of the larger stores. But otherwise, you must go to the farmers markets. There is a year round home delivery business that is organic and much of their produce is from within 100 miles; they even have one option that is all Northwest produce and year round. Is there any interest out there for getting an organic farmers market started in Lakewood?
