FORT LEWIS, WA — Fort Lewis Emergency Response personnel responded to a 911 call at approximately 3:30 am Sunday, Feb. 15, to a barracks on Fort Lewis. Two 16-year-old civilian females were found at the barracks, both unresponsive. One of the females was declared dead on the scene by a doctor from Madigan Army Medical Center. The second civilian female was transported to Madigan Army Medical Center to receive emergency medical care. She is currently in stable condition.
At this time, the circumstances leading up to the death and cause of death are under investigation by Fort Lewis Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
The names of the individuals involved are not being released due to their ages, their civilian status, and the nature of the ongoing investigation.
Next of kin notification has been completed.
Fort Lewis law enforcement officials are conducting a thorough investigation of this tragedy. In the meantime, the Fort Lewis leadership is closely monitoring the progress of the investigation. A review of installation policies and procedures is already underway.
