LAKEWOOD, WA — Eighteen fourth-graders from Clover Park School District elementary schools will take over the district kitchen (9219 Lakewood Dr. SW in Lakewood) Thursday, Jan. 29 for the second annual Kids Can Cook Competition.
Students from Beachwood, Custer, Dower, Evergreen, Greenwood, Hillside, Idlewild, Park Lodge and Tillicum Elementary Schools will prepare unique recipes and participate in an afternoon of culinary events‚Äîstarting with basic food safety practices.
An adult team member will help each student prepare his or her recipe, but student chefs will be responsible for their finished food products, including plate and table presentation.
“This competition is a great way for our students to become familiarized with food preparation and safety as well as healthy eating,” said Kevin Scott, director of student nutrition
Food preparation starts at 2:30 p.m. and reception and judging start at 5 p.m. Judges will award winners in the following categories: health conscious foods; kid friendly food preparation; fun foods; best table presentation and judge’s choice.
