Teachers from Steilacoom and Clover Park school districts were recognized as Educator of the Month recently by the Rotary Club of Lakewood. The teachers honored were Kelley Loveland (left) and Virginia Yanoff.
Introduced by Lakewood Rotarian Tony Robinson, Loveland works with the special needs students at Tillicum Elementary School in the Clover Park School District, a position she has held for the last six years. Ms Loveland was nominated for the Rotary Club recognition by the school’s principal, Diana Dix.
Yanoff is a 7th grade Language Arts instructor at Pioneer Middle School in the Steilacoom Historical School District. She was nominated by her school’s principal, Kristi Webster.
The Rotary Club of Lakewood recognizes a teacher from each of the school districts each month and also honors a student each month from each district. Each individual is hosted at the club’s Friday noon luncheon meeting at Tacoma Country & Golf Club usually with the school principal and often with a spouse. In the case of the students, parents and a teacher are invited to accompany them.
Lakewood Rotary Club, with a membership of about 120 men and women, has been serving the Lakewood community for more than 52 years. Recently the club invited other community organizations to join with it in expanding a local foundation.
