Eighth-graders from Clover Park School District’s middle schools will present their original poetry Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Hudtloff Middle School, 7702 Phillips Road SW in Lakewood.
The showcase is the second of a four part series focused on the mantra, “Four schools, one vision: Building community through the celebration of academic achievement.” The first showcase of the 2008-09 school year took place at Woodbrook Middle School in October.
“The showcases are designed to celebrate the personal academic achievements of our students,” said Hudtloff teacher Michael Lauritzen. “The assignments have rallied communication around classroom work and have allowed us insight into their brilliant minds.”
Students will deliver soapbox speeches at the third showcase in March and will present “This I believe” essays in May.
“We want students to feel proud and valued for their academics,” said Hudtloff teacher Mary Carlisle. “Our eighth-graders are far deeper than what they are often given credit for.
