A crew of approximately 7-8 Steilacoom High School Key Club members stocked the shelves at the Steilacoom Food Pantry.
The students delivered food to the Pantry on Dec. 9, according to Food Pantry Coordinator Sharon Cornett.
A big ‘Thanks’ to all who took part in this effort,” said Cornett.
The effort “snowballed” after other Key Club members joined in the effort of providing food. Eventually three carloads of food were delivered to the Pantry on Nisqually Street.
While Key Club students have assisted with previous Boy Scout Food Drives, this was the first Key Club event.
During the recent holiday season, Cornett added that the Pantry provided groceries and gift baskets for about 41 families—down slightly, she speculated, because of the snow. Groceries were provided for 45 families during Thanksgiving.
Donations for the community food pantry are always welcome.
“Donations can be delivered to the Community Center on Worthington Street,” she said.
Hours of operation for the Pantry are from 10-l1:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday and fourth Saturday of each month.
