Bernard E. Blake 97, a longtime Tacoma resident, passed away after a short illness, on December 7, 2008. He was born in Northallerton, England, served with Royal Air Force during World War II stationed in Shanghai, China and taken prisoner by the Japanese remaining so for about four years. After the war Bernard came to Canada, then the United States becoming a citizen, and working as a Stereotypist for the Tacoma News Tribune, for about 36+ years. Bernard was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening and traveling during his retired years. Bernard is predeceased by his parents, sister and his wife and traveling companion Helen Blake. He will be missed by special friends Betty Repp, Susan Repp, Merle and Lulla Scaff, Evelyn Clifford, Polly Maclean, and Jody Lynn Pilarski. Delores M. Miller Dee was born March 6, 1926 in Topeka KS and passed away December 4, 2008 in Tacoma WA. She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Nellie Bussart, brother Harley, and sister Lee. She is survived by her daughter Judy (Jack), 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all of us. A special thanks to Dr. Matzenauer and his staff and Dr. Lee and his staff for their care of Mom. Also a very special thanks to Mandy and Michelle for their care and thoughtfulness these past few months. Louise Patricia Mannikko Born April 8, 1939 in Appleton, WI. Died December 7, 2008 in her home of 45 years in Tacoma, WA. Louise was a homemaker, and worked with the kids at Arlington Elementary School for over 20 years. She is survived by her two sons, Arthur and Charles, and her daughter-in-law Teresa. Memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 101 S. 96th St., Tacoma, on Saturday, December 13, at noon.
Ernest Cagle Ernie was born October 19, 1919 in Orofino, Idaho and passed away December 6, 2008 in Tacoma, Wa. Ernie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He grew up in Spokane, Wa, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School and attending Gonzaga University. Ernie served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, seeing combat on Tarawa in the South Pacific. He spent the majority of his working years as an accountant with General Telephone Co, in Spokane, Everett, and later Tampa, Florida, retiring to Tacoma in 1982 to be near family. Ernie is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marian, son Dan Cagle (Sharon), daughter Connie Watkins, 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be at Mountain View Cemetery at 2:00 Saturday, December 13 in the Garden Chapel. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial in Spokane. No graveside services. Kathryn J. Johnston 3/2/1925 – 12/8/2008 Born to Everett and Alto Rose Davidson in Havre, Mont. She moved to Tacoma with her family as a young girl. She is survived by sisters Vi Boman of Tacoma, WA, Marilyn Coatney of Yuma, AZ, daughters Doreen Greenwood of Tacoma, WA, Karen Sisson of Rochester, WA, son Dudley Darland of Goodyear, AZ, also 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-granchildren. Mom has gone to be with her other three children. She will be missed. She will be interred at Mountain View. There will be no services.
Sybil Lovell Born July 6, 1925, our dearly beloved Mother, Grandma, and GgMa went to be with our Lord on December 8, 2008. Her memory will be cherished by children Roni Lovell (Eddie), Barb Constable (Rick)(Lee), Kathy Palumbo (Dave), grandchildren Eddie and Teresa Lovell, Jennifer and Angel Palumbo, Sarah, Michael, and David Lovell, great-grandchildren Stephen Lovell (Brandilee), Justin Lovell, and Jordan Charters. Preceded in death by husband Wes Lovell, son Wesley Lovell, and granddaughter Pamela Lovell. Mother was a volunteer at the Fife Community Center, giving 4970 hours over the last 8 years as a receptionist for the City of Fife. She also volunteered at the Center through Catholic Community Services, helping serve meals to other seniors, her friends. Mother has received various write-ups and awards, including the Unsung Hero Award at the yearly RSVP Breakfast. Mother never met a stranger and lit up a room just by walking into it. Memorial service to be held Saturday, December 13, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Northwest Foursquare Church, 34800 21st Ave. SW, Federal Way. Reception to follow at the church.
