Jake Garbush, a Lakes High School senior, deadlifted 551 lbs. at the Las Vegas weightlifting championships in early November to set the world record for the 16- to 17-year-old category. Garbush, 17, who weighs just 192 lbs., also holds the world record in the 14- to 15-year-old category that he set in 2006.
Garbush started competitive weightlifting when he was 14-years-old after working out with his dad.
“We have a weight set at my house and my dad was really impressed with how much I could lift,” said Garbush. “He encouraged me to explore competitive weightlifting, and now here I am.”
Garbush works out for two hours four to five days a week. He plans to continue power lifting after high school.Print This Post
