The pre-holiday feast included Native American-style foods: venison stew, buffalo chili, fresh-caught salmon, johnny cakes, cornbread, cranberries (made with maple syrup), blueberries and raspberries.
The feast was part of the students’ cultural lesson about Native Americans, and incorporated math in the process. The kids just thought they were having “fun” making all the items. Everyone brought something to the feast–in the traditional potlatch style. As a memento of the occasion students made dream catchers to hang above their bed–and keep away bad dreams.
