Lakewood, WA ‚Äì On November 17, 2008 during the rush hour commute Lakewood Fire District 2 responded to a report of a car crash at the 9600 block of Steilacoom Blvd SW.
Lakewood Firefighters arrived to find four patients, two of which were trapped in their cars. The trapped patients required firefighters to use the ‚Äújaws of life‚Äù extrication tools to remove them from the vehicles. Two patients were successfully extricated and transported to a local hospital by Lakewood Fire Department Medic Units. Two other patients with lesser injuries were transported by private ambulance.
On scene Lakewood Fire District 2 had one engine, one ladder truck and two medic units. The circumstance of the crash were as follows: a vehicle headed east bound on Steilacoom Blvd turned left into the entrance of Western State Hospital when it was hit by two cars traveling in the west bound lane of Steilacoom Blvd SW.
