Fort Lewis, WA — Soldiers from the 514th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance) and 547th Medical Company (Area Support) will return from a 15-month deployment to Iraq on Friday, November 7. About 140 Soldiers from the two units will be reunited with their families at a ceremony currently scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, in the Sheridan Fitness Center.
Both companies deployed in August, 2007, serving with several other Fort Lewis units as part of Task Force 62, under Fort Lewis’ 62nd Medical Brigade headquarters, while in Iraq.
While deployed, the 547th Area Support Company treated more than 72,000 patients, providing more than $12 million in medical care to coalition Soldiers and civilians, ranging from routine immunizations to X-rays and lab work, to emergency medical support and coordinating air evacuations for critically ill and injured patients.
The 514th Ground Ambulance Company conducted more than 4,000 missions, transporting more than 7,000 patients to medical care facilities for treatment. Thirteen Soldiers assigned to the company received the Combat Action Badge, and two received the Army Commendation Medal with “V” device, for valor.
