Starting its second decade, the Lakewood Historical Society will kick off its annual meeting Thursday, Nov. 6 in the Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Ave SW, Lakewood, according to Becky Huber, society president.
Slated to get underway at 7 pm, the annual gathering will include election of members of the board of directors as well as offering an overview of accomplishments of the society during the last year.
A highlight of the meeting will be a display of photos of the historic Mueller – Harkins Hangar at Clover Park Technical College on Steilacoom Boulevard. The hangar has been designated by the society‚Äôs board of directors as the site for a permanent museum. In addition to the historic photos of the building, artist renditions prepared by BCRA Architects ‚Äì Engineers of how the future museum might look will also be on display, the society president explained.
The Lakewood Historical Society currently operates a museum in a storefront space in the Lakewood Colonial Center. Numerous historical displays are included in the building and new exhibits are in the works. Huber said individuals joining the society before the end of the year will get a $5 discount off the usual membership fee.
The annual meeting is open to current society members as well as anyone interested in the history of Lakewood and the future permanent museum project. Refreshments will be served. For additional information contact Huber 253-370-6676.Print This Post
